Laguna Beach Schools
Laguna Beach Unified and its four public schools: grades, addresses, how to find the school for a street, and the district's transfer rules.
Laguna Beach Unified School District
Laguna Beach Unified School District serves the City of Laguna Beach from its office at 550 Blumont Street, and it runs four schools: two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. The district’s street list also places some streets outside the city inside its boundaries, among them Emerald Bay, Irvine Cove, a set of bluff and cove streets in the Newport Coast area, and a group of bird-named lanes in Aliso Viejo. Laguna Beach has no charter schools.
Public Schools in Laguna Beach
- El Morro Elementary, preschool to grade 5, 8681 North Coast Highway
- Top of the World Elementary, transitional kindergarten to grade 5, 21601 Tree Top Lane
- Thurston Middle School, grades 6 to 8, 2100 Park Avenue
- Laguna Beach High School, grades 9 to 12, 625 Park Avenue
The district’s street list assigns each street to one of its two elementary schools. El Morro takes the north end of the city, the south end below Diamond Street (South Laguna included) and the district’s Newport Coast streets. Top of the World takes the middle of the city between Thalia and Diamond Streets, the Top of the World ridge, Bluebird Canyon and the district’s Aliso Viejo streets. All students then attend Thurston Middle School and Laguna Beach High School.
How to Find the School for a Laguna Beach Address
Laguna Beach Unified has no address lookup tool. Its school boundaries page links a district boundary map and a street list that gives each street’s elementary school; for an address the list does not settle, the district’s business office answers at (949) 497-7700, extension 5212. New students enroll online with two proofs of residence inside the district.
Transfers Into and Out of the District
The district takes interdistrict transfer agreements for the coming school year from March 1 to May 15, and each agreement lasts one year. Its transfers page says the district denies requests to enter from outside its boundaries, with two exceptions: children of full-time, permanent district employees, and Laguna Beach High students who move away after grade 11 and return for grade 12. Attending Laguna Beach schools generally requires an address inside the district.
