About Lantern Village Central

Lantern Village Central is the MLS name for the residential streets around Dana Point's Lantern District, on both sides of the Pacific Coast Highway and Del Prado couplet above Dana Point Harbor. In 1923 and 1924 a syndicate from Laguna Beach assembled about 900 acres here and built a lookout at the end of what is now Blue Lantern. The coast highway, now Pacific Coast Highway, was completed through town in 1929, but the Depression stalled building, and most of the homes came after 1960. Its streets still carry the names of colored lanterns, among them Blue, Copper, Ruby, Amber, Violet and Golden Lantern.

Homes here are mostly single-family houses built from the 1960s to the early 1980s, with condos and buildings of a few units mixed in. The city's Town Center Plan, certified in 2008 and tightened by voters through Measure H in 2016, governs the shops and restaurants along the Pacific Coast Highway and Del Prado couplet through its middle, with a three-story, 40-foot height limit there. The harbor and Baby Beach lie downhill. See our Dana Point beaches guide.
